The modernization project for the pool has faced numerous delays and legal challenges since its inception in 2016, with no construction having started yet. The outdoor pool, covered by a pressurized balloon, remains the only option for athletes during winter. The project has been stalled by multiple contestations regarding the bidding process, leading to further postponements. As a result, Popovici and other swimmers are forced to endure subpar training conditions, raising concerns about the support for elite sports in Romania.
