She emphasized the amicable nature of their departure and suggested that geopolitical factors, such as the Ukraine war, may have influenced their decision. ExxonMobil had previously announced its intention to withdraw in 2019, leading to Romgaz acquiring their stake in 2022, making both Romgaz and OMV Petrom equal partners in the project. The first gas production is expected in 2027, with significant reserves estimated.
