Dan Dungaciu, AUR's vice president, stated that reintroducing mandatory military service in Romania is currently impossible without a fundamental change in the relationship between youth, the state, and national identity. He emphasized the need to rebuild trust in the state and its institutions before considering such measures. Dungaciu argued that the current perception of the state among young people is negative, viewing it as ineffective and corrupt. He highlighted the importance of a new public discourse to foster a sense of national identity and commitment among the youth. Without this, mandatory service could further alienate young people from the state.
