Dăianu, la Budapesta: „Deficitul a sărit în 2024 din cauza miopiei și a idioțeniei unora dintre politicieni. Marile deficite nu au fost create de oamenii obișnuiți”

Daniel Dăianu, head of the Romanian Fiscal Council, criticized politicians for the rising deficit in 2024, attributing it to their shortsightedness. He acknowledged Romania's fiscal adjustment but warned that austerity is negatively impacting the economy. Dăianu emphasized the need for better tax collection, particularly regarding VAT, to reduce the deficit. He also pointed out that politicians should not blame citizens for financial illiteracy, as they are responsible for policy decisions. Concerns were raised about the current account deficit and rising defense spending amidst economic consolidation. Dăianu foresees potential global debt crises and stresses the importance of addressing social issues alongside economic policies.
