Researchers noted an unusual increase in seismic activity, with 1,399 earthquakes recorded from 2008 to 2025, contradicting the area's previously low tectonic activity. Old faults near the mountain may have been activated by the explosions, potentially allowing water to infiltrate and increase pressure. There is no clear evidence of further nuclear tests since 2017, complicating future monitoring of the site due to persistent seismic effects.
