A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 struck southern Panama, causing significant damage and panic among residents. The USGS reported the quake occurred at a depth of 12.6 km, with its epicenter located about 200 km from Panama City. President Jose Raul Mulino described the situation as a major disaster, noting that some roads collapsed completely. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties so far. Despite over 40 aftershocks, key infrastructure like the Panama Canal and Cobre Panama mine continued to operate normally. The U.S. Secretary of State expressed readiness to assist if needed.
