The quake was shallow, at a depth of 21.4 kilometers, and is notable for its location in a region not typically associated with seismic activity. The epicenter was situated 34 km south of Suceava and 58 km south of Piatra Neamț. This area is less prone to earthquakes compared to Vrancea, which is known for frequent seismic events. Since early September, Romania has experienced 12 earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 2 to 4.1, with the strongest being 4.5 in February.
