A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Flores Island, Indonesia, causing casualties and significant damage. Five people have died, and many are injured as rescue operations continue. The earthquake occurred at 05:58 local time, with its epicenter near Ende city. It was shallow, intensifying surface effects, and was followed by numerous aftershocks, including one of magnitude 6.1. Buildings were damaged or collapsed, complicating rescue efforts due to landslides and blocked roads. A tsunami warning was issued and later lifted, with around 2,000 people evacuated. Authorities advised residents to stay calm and avoid unstable buildings while damage assessments and rescue operations proceed.
