Curtea Supremă din Spania a anulat mandatul de arestare împotriva separatistului catalan Carles Puigdemont
The Spanish Supreme Court has annulled the arrest warrant against Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont, allowing his return to Spain after nearly nine years in Belgium. This decision follows the Constitutional Court's confirmation of an amnesty law that includes Puigdemont and former advisors. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the ruling, viewing it as a step towards reconciliation in Catalonia. The amnesty law, controversial and criticized by the right-wing opposition, was definitively adopted in May 2024. The Supreme Court previously ruled that the law does not apply to those charged with embezzlement, which had previously hindered Puigdemont's return. The Court of Justice of the European Union also endorsed the amnesty law as a means to reduce political tensions.
