Recent claims about the number of stranded dolphins and porpoises along the Romanian coast are significantly exaggerated, according to experts from OCEANIC CLUB. They argue that reported figures of 264 to 266 stranded cetaceans do not reflect the actual situation. The discrepancy arises from differences between media reports and biological observations in the Black Sea. Marine currents suggest that any mass mortality would also be evident on the coasts of neighboring Bulgaria and Turkey, where much lower numbers have been reported. The experts emphasize the importance of accurate data to avoid misallocation of resources and to maintain credibility in conservation efforts.
