The Romanian Ministry of National Defense has outlined a 10-year modernization plan for the army, approved by the Supreme Council of National Defense. This plan, known as PIAR, focuses on enhancing military capabilities in response to NATO obligations and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. It includes various categories of military capabilities, such as engagement, protection, command and control, intelligence, projection, and support. The plan emphasizes the need for rapid intervention capabilities and a robust national defense industry. Funding will be supported by the EU's SAFE instrument, with Romania planning 22 projects to enhance its defense capabilities. The budget for defense is expected to increase gradually to meet these goals.
