The U.S., Denmark, and Greenland have signed a historic agreement, leading to the establishment of two new U.S. military bases in Greenland: Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig. These bases will enhance early warning, logistics, and surveillance capabilities in the region. The Mestersvig base will specifically monitor access routes from the Russian Arctic to the Greenland Sea and the Norwegian Sea. The U.S. already operates the Pituffik base, which focuses on missile warning and space surveillance. The new bases will facilitate rapid troop deployment and strengthen NATO's military presence in the Arctic, particularly in the strategically important GIUK gap.
