The final two balls, held by the Russian Romanovs in 1903 and the Austrian imperial family in 1914, marked the end of an era. The Russian ball, organized by Tsar Nicholas II, celebrated the 290th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty and featured a costume theme that required guests to wear elaborate historical attire. Despite the high costs, 390 guests attended, showcasing the opulence of the time. These events reflected the cultural divide between the aristocracy and the common people, foreshadowing the impending social upheaval in Russia.
