Google has launched SynthID Detector, a tool that allows users to verify if images, videos, or audio files are generated by AI. This tool checks for a digital watermark embedded in AI-generated content, which is invisible to users but can be detected later. SynthID Detector can identify content created not only by Google but also by partners like OpenAI and NVIDIA. Users upload files to the tool, which then searches for the watermark, indicating if the content was generated or modified by AI. While it has marked over 180 billion pieces of content, it is not a universal detector for all AI-generated media. The tool can also be useful in educational settings for verifying online materials.
