The Romanian Police analyzed over 1,200 complaints related to investment frauds in stocks and cryptocurrencies, identifying common victim profiles. Most victims are aged between 66 and 75, with a significant portion having only secondary education. Urban residents make up 78% of the victims, and 41.9% are retirees. The frauds often involve requests for money, with promises of returns from investments in stocks or cryptocurrencies. The total financial loss reported exceeds 58 million lei, 2 million euros, and nearly 6 million dollars across various cases. Additionally, phone scams have become prevalent, accounting for 42% of reported frauds in early 2026.
