A newly discovered plant species named Salvia messii has been found in the Andes, honoring Lionel Messi. The plant, with blue and white flowers resembling Argentina's national colors, is endangered and grows at altitudes of 2,000 to 2,400 meters in Peru. The discovery was published in Phytotaxa and involved researchers from the National Museum of Natural History in Lima. This is not Messi's first scientific tribute, as previous species have also been named after him.
