Romania currently relies on high-priced electricity imports, which may lead to a 10-15% increase in consumer bills if the situation persists. Cristian Bușoi from the Ministry of Energy noted that current market prices are significantly higher than those from bilateral contracts. He explained that while short-term effects on renegotiated contracts would be minimal, a prolonged crisis could result in more substantial price hikes. Bușoi also mentioned that Romania has reserve production capacities, such as the Rovinari 4 energy group, which is not economically viable to activate at present due to high costs. Additionally, he highlighted the careful management of hydro energy resources to reduce imports.
