The Marie Curie Hospital in Bucharest has unlocked 22 positions for its neonatal intensive care unit, but finding experienced nurses remains a challenge. The unit is currently short nine to ten nurses, leading to a reduction in bed capacity and the transfer of newborns to other hospitals. The head of the unit, Dr. Cătălin Cîrstoveanu, warns that the lack of staff is compromising the quality of care and patient safety. He emphasizes that training qualified nurses takes time and that understaffing increases the risk of infections and decreases the quality of medical care.
