Atletico Madrid has officially announced the signing of Argentine defender Cristian Romero from Tottenham for an estimated €40 million. Romero, a 28-year-old World Cup champion, signed a five-year contract with the club. Known for his physical play and leadership qualities, he has made 58 appearances for Argentina, including in the 2022 World Cup final. Romero expressed pride in his time at Tottenham, where he helped the team win the Europa League in 2025. This transfer marks Atletico's fourth signing of the summer, following Grimaldo, Kang-in Lee, and Hjulmand. Atletico will start their new season at home against Malaga on August 19.
