Day meticulously prepared a room, covering it in plastic, resembling a "death room" from the series. He contacted Săceanu through an online platform and attacked her with a knife, inflicting 78 wounds. After the murder, he intended to dismember her body but abandoned the plan due to an injury. Day was arrested the next day after being found with a bandaged hand, claiming he was bitten by a fox. He pleaded guilty in court, with his defense requesting leniency due to his age and lack of prior convictions.
