The price of sheep meat in Romania has dropped by about 20% following the EU's ban on sheep and goat exports due to disease outbreaks. As of September 7, the price per 100 kg of lamb carcass is 646.3 euros, significantly lower than the nearly 1,000 euros recorded earlier this year. Romania has experienced the second-largest price drop in the EU, after Bulgaria, where prices also fell sharply. In contrast, prices in Portugal and Hungary have increased. Romania plans to vaccinate its sheep and goats to potentially resume exports before the end of 2026.
