A recent study reveals that the human brain undergoes two significant organizational changes during life, at ages 24 and 60. Researchers analyzed over 1.3 million brain cells from donors aged from infancy to 97 years, focusing on the prefrontal cortex, which is crucial for decision-making and memory formation. The findings indicate a rapid cellular composition change during childhood and adolescence, followed by a stabilization period until age 60, when aging effects become more pronounced. The study highlights the importance of understanding healthy brain aging at a molecular level and aims to create a detailed map of the human brain through the PsychAD project.
