A military tribunal will try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in June 2028 for his role in the September 11 attacks. He has been held at Guantanamo since 2006 after being captured in 2003. A previous plea deal was overturned in 2025, which could have spared him the death penalty. The September 11 attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths.
