Court orders 30-day pre-trial detention for Calin Georgescu

The Bucharest Court of Appeal has ordered Calin Georgescu into 30-day pre-trial detention for allegedly defrauding a businessman of 1.1 million. Businessman Ionel Rusen faces the same measure. The decision followed a split panel of judges, with a third judge favoring detention. Georgescu and Rusen were previously detained for 24 hours on charges of organized crime and fraud. The investigation began after a complaint from businessman Razvan Leu, who claimed he was defrauded during a failed loan scheme. Prosecutors have also seized Georgescu's villa to recover damages.
