Union leaders claim the actual cost of a metro trip is 14 lei, with state subsidies reducing the fare to 5 lei. The price for a trip purchased via subscription is only 2.3 lei. A proposed fare increase to 7 lei was canceled by the interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, due to insufficient votes. Union representatives argue that the fare hike was necessary to ensure cash flow for Metrorex, as the state failed to provide adequate subsidies. The government previously agreed to raise fares to cover the shortfall in compensation from the Ministry of Finance.
