The real cost of a metro trip is approximately 14 lei, while passengers pay around 5 lei due to subsidies. The president of the Metro Union, Marian Artimon, highlighted that the actual fare through subscriptions is only 2.3 lei. A proposed fare increase to 7 lei was canceled by the interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, due to insufficient votes. Artimon emphasized that the fare hike was necessary to ensure cash flow for Metrorex, as the state failed to provide the required subsidies. The previous minister had planned the increase for January 2026, but it was not approved in time.
