Cornelia Elena Micicoi, former prefect of Timiș, was detained by European prosecutors for alleged fraud involving EU funds. She is among six individuals under investigation in a case linked to misappropriation of funds intended for training disadvantaged individuals. The investigation has been ongoing for several months, with multiple searches conducted, including at her residence and the association she previously led. The total financial damage is estimated to be several hundred thousand euros. Micicoi served as prefect from October 2025 until her resignation in June 2026 due to the ongoing investigation.
