The initiative aims to reduce heat-related illnesses during a heatwave with temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius. Drones deliver messages urging farmers to take breaks and avoid prolonged work. This surveillance system, developed in 2023, was initially for wildlife monitoring but has been adapted for heat alerts. The region, home to a significant portion of the country's agricultural households, faces an aging workforce, with nearly 60% of farmers over 65. President Lee Jae Myung has declared the heatwave a national disaster, following 21 heat-related deaths.
