Researchers from the University of Georgia found that some children enjoy solitary play without it indicating social issues. The study involved 473 students aged 9 to 11, highlighting the importance of belonging to a group. Children who feel part of a group while enjoying solitary play report better relationships. In contrast, those who do not value group belonging often have weaker social ties. The findings suggest that parents and teachers should not assume solitary play indicates a need for larger groups, as gradual integration into smaller groups may be more beneficial.
