The European Commission has adopted the EU KIDS Act, aimed at protecting children online by establishing common rules across the EU. Children under 13 will be prohibited from having social media accounts, while those aged 13 to 15 will have special accounts managed by parents. The act emphasizes age-appropriate design, requiring platforms to limit addictive features and ensure privacy for minors. Age verification mechanisms will be implemented without sharing sensitive personal data. Large online platforms must demonstrate compliance with safety standards and submit plans for independent audits. The proposal is now under review by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
