Romania's current account deficit reached €16.29 billion in January-July 2026, up from €15.71 billion in the same period of 2025. The trade balance showed a larger deficit, while the services balance had a higher surplus. Foreign direct investments dropped significantly to €1.13 billion compared to €4.91 billion in 2025. Total external debt increased to €234.88 billion, with long-term debt making up 77.6% of the total. The coverage ratio for short-term external debt decreased to 91.4%.
