The European Commission has proposed a recommendation for cardiovascular health checks to reduce premature deaths and detect risks early. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the EU, with around 1.7 million fatalities annually. The 'Safe Hearts' plan aims to cut premature cardiovascular deaths by 25% by 2035. Member states are encouraged to implement national health checks to identify risks and provide timely treatment, focusing on vulnerable groups. The initiative coincides with the first EU Screening Week, promoting awareness of cardiovascular risk factors and the importance of medical checks. The campaign will officially launch on World Heart Day, September 29, 2026, and continue throughout 2027.
