Consiliul UE a încheiat mecanismul de condiționalitate impus Ungariei, deblocând fonduri de 4,2 miliarde de euro

The EU Council has officially unlocked 4.2 billion euros for Hungary after the government led by Péter Magyar adopted new anti-corruption reforms. This decision ends the conditionality mechanism imposed in 2022 due to corruption risks, allowing Hungary to rejoin Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programs. The previous mechanism suspended significant EU funding amid corruption concerns. Following the electoral victory of the center-right Tisza party, the new government implemented measures to combat corruption and increase transparency to secure the release of EU funds. Ursula von der Leyen announced a total of 16.4 billion euros would be released in exchange for reforms and investment plans. Hungary is also seeking access to an additional 10 billion euros for COVID-19 recovery, with 2.2 billion euros still contingent on improvements in academic freedom. The European Commission is currently assessing compliance with the conditions for fund access.
