The average price of standard diesel reached approximately 10.23 lei per liter after a 20% excise tax reduction led to a decrease of about 68 bani per liter. Following this, prices increased again, according to the Competition Council's analysis. The average price dropped from around 10.74 lei to 10.10 lei per liter after the tax cut. Despite a subsequent rise of 13-15 bani, diesel remains cheaper than before the tax reduction. The Council noted that diesel prices are influenced by crude oil quotes and supply issues. Comparatively, Romanian diesel prices align closely with EU averages, while gasoline prices are lower than the EU average. The Council is currently analyzing compliance with price caps among fuel operators.
