A recent study by the Competition Council highlights that strict regulations and high financial guarantees in the management of electronic waste (DEEE) may hinder small companies and increase costs for consumers. The new rules require organizations to have a minimum market share and a significant financial guarantee, leading to a decrease in the number of responsible organizations. This situation creates a financial burden on the Romanian market compared to other European countries. Additionally, the lack of standardized classification for equipment complicates price comparisons. The Council recommends the Ministry of Environment to reassess market entry barriers and standardize tariffs to support businesses and prevent price increases.
