Ion Chilom, a Romanian who fled the communist regime in 1982, returns home after 44 years, believed dead by his family. He worked in the US but faced hardships after losing his job and home. A local resident helped raise funds for his return, collecting $7,000 to cover travel expenses and support him. Chilom had previously attempted to return in 1987 but was advised against it due to the regime's presence. He is set to arrive in Romania on his 78th birthday.
