Condiția Greciei pentru orice viitoare dezbatere privind o apropiere între Marea Britanie și UE

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the return of the Parthenon friezes will be part of future discussions between the UK and the EU. He emphasized that this issue is not only Greek but European. Mitsotakis plans to intensify Greece's claims to the UK government and the British Museum, citing a lack of progress in past negotiations. Greece argues that the friezes were taken illegally in 1802, while London claims they were legally acquired. Mitsotakis proposed a unique cultural partnership with the British Museum in exchange for temporary access to other Greek archaeological treasures. However, legal restrictions limit the museum's ability to return the friezes without parliamentary action.
