Romania is set to receive around 60 billion euros in the upcoming EU budget for 2028-2034, but a significant opportunity lies in competing for over 400 billion euros from the European Competitiveness Fund and Horizon Europe. The Confederation of Employers Concordia has proposed a 10-point plan to enhance the competitiveness of Romanian companies, urging the government to prepare projects ahead of the funding calls. The plan emphasizes the need for strategic sectors, a national project bank, and collaboration between large companies and SMEs. It also highlights the importance of integrating SMEs into major investments and creating a blended finance mechanism to maximize economic returns. Concordia calls for a national competitiveness pact and greater involvement in shaping future EU funding rules.
