CONAF: Legea pentru mai multe femei în companii listate nu a avut efect

The gender balance law in Romania has not significantly changed the representation of women in company leadership by the compliance deadline. Between December 2025 and July 2026, the percentage of women in analyzed boards increased slightly from 21.4% to 22.1%, despite the number of women remaining constant at 82. The total number of board positions decreased, affecting the overall percentage. In contrast, the EU saw a rise in women's representation in company boards. Romanian state-controlled companies met gender representation goals better than private firms, highlighting the impact of selection and monitoring systems. The lack of enforcement mechanisms in listed companies has hindered progress.
