Electrocentrale București (ELCEN) has achieved record electricity sales prices, reaching nearly 1,100 lei/MWh on the futures market. This surpasses previous records set by other state-owned companies. ELCEN sold energy for delivery in January and February 2027 at high prices, with transactions completed at over 1,000 lei/MWh. The company, which is the largest thermal energy producer in Romania, operates four cogeneration plants and relies solely on natural gas for energy production. The current market price for gas is significantly high, impacting overall production costs.
