"Comoară" veche de 2.000 de ani, descoperită pe Dunăre

A submerged vessel in the Danube, dating back over 2,000 years, contained more than 500 iron bars, enough to equip an army. This find is the largest ancient iron deposit in Europe, shedding light on ancient trade and transport. Discovered in 2019 near Deinham, the iron bars were reported by workers at a gravel pit. The collection includes 193 complete and 307 partial bars, weighing about one ton in total. These semi-finished products were likely intended for further processing. Researchers suggest the iron may have been lost during transport or could represent a ritual deposit. Ongoing analysis aims to determine the bars' geographical origin, potentially linking them to Bavaria. This discovery highlights advanced iron production capabilities in the late Iron Age along the Danube.
