The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) has approved a phased plan to ensure the water supply for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant amid low Danube water levels. The measures aim to adapt to the river's fluctuating levels and maintain safe operations at the plant. A temporary, modular intervention system will be established at the confluence of the Old Danube and the Danube-Black Sea Canal. The plan will activate if water levels drop below 1.58 meters, with several stages outlined for intervention. Initial actions include positioning vessels to redirect water flow, followed by modular closures if necessary. If these measures fail, high-capacity pumps will be deployed to supply additional water for cooling purposes. Funding for these actions will come from the Ministry of Environment's budget and other sources as needed.
