The National Emergency Situations Committee (CNSU) has approved a phased plan to ensure the water supply for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant amid low Danube levels. The measures aim to adapt to the river's fluctuating levels and maintain safe operations at the plant. A temporary, modular intervention system will be established at the confluence of the Old Danube and the Danube-Black Sea Canal. The plan will activate if water levels drop below 1.58 meters, with several stages of intervention outlined. Initial actions include positioning vessels to redirect water flow, followed by modular closures if necessary. If these measures fail, high-capacity pumps will be deployed to ensure adequate water supply for cooling.
