The European Commission has launched the European Literacy Coalition to enhance reading skills across Europe, addressing the 31.3% of 15-year-olds in the EU struggling with basic text comprehension. This coalition will bring together schools, educational providers, libraries, cultural organizations, and public authorities to share experiences and improve literacy from early childhood. The initiative responds to persistent issues in basic skills, highlighted by PISA 2025 results. In Romania, the situation is more alarming, with 52% of 15-year-olds failing to meet minimum math competencies and 48% struggling with reading. Romania ranks below the OECD average in all evaluated areas.
