Comisia Europeană deblochează 4,2 miliarde de euro pentru Ungaria. Ursula von der Leyen: „A consolidat statul de drept”

The European Commission has unlocked 4.2 billion euros in cohesion funds for Hungary, citing improvements in the rule of law. This decision also allows Hungary to rejoin the Erasmus+ student exchange program and Horizon Europe research funding. In 2022, the EU had suspended 6.3 billion euros due to concerns over corruption and public procurement issues. Prime Minister Péter Magyar campaigned on the promise to restore these funds. Ursula von der Leyen praised Hungary's efforts to strengthen the rule of law and protect EU financial interests. Hungary aims to withdraw an additional 10 billion euros from recovery funds, while 2 billion euros remain blocked due to asylum system concerns and academic freedom issues.
