The European Commission will transfer €3.3 billion to Ukraine for defense equipment, part of a €90 billion loan to support the country. This funding aims to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russian aggression, including the purchase of drones and missiles. This marks the fourth payment under the defense component of the loan, totaling nearly €15 billion for Ukraine this year. The loan also includes €30 billion for budgetary support and €60 billion for defense from 2026 to 2027. The Commission is prepared to initiate a new joint program with Ukraine to develop a European air and missile defense system, leveraging Ukraine's battlefield experience and Europe's industrial capabilities. Since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, the EU has provided Ukraine with €224.5 billion in aid.
