The European Commission has urged EU member states to implement measures to reduce natural gas and electricity demand to stabilize prices ahead of winter. In a letter from Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, he emphasized that reducing demand could effectively cap prices amid global supply constraints. He reassured that there are no immediate risks to energy supply security, despite low gas storage levels in Europe, currently at 68%. The EU aims for a 90% storage level by November but has adjusted targets to 80% to prevent panic buying. Jørgensen advised that any regulatory measures should be targeted and temporary to avoid stimulating energy demand.
