The European Commission has fined AliExpress €550 million for failing to comply with the Digital Services Act by not adequately assessing and mitigating risks related to illegal and unsafe products on its platform. AliExpress was found to have insufficient personnel for product evaluation, inadequate risk assessment of its recommendation systems, and ineffective enforcement of penalties against sellers of illegal products. The company has until October 20, 2026, to submit an action plan to address these violations. Failure to comply may result in further penalties.
