The European Commission has adopted the EU Kids Act, prohibiting social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube from accessing children under 13. The act establishes a minimum age of 15 for minors to create their own accounts, ensuring parental control for those aged 13 to 15. It mandates that platforms demonstrate safety by design, restrict addictive features, and protect minors' privacy. The act also requires age verification tools and imposes compliance responsibilities on large online platforms. The proposal is now set for discussion in the European Parliament and Council, aiming for swift adoption.
