Comisia de la Veneția va analiza Legea ANI

The Venice Commission will urgently review Law no. 180/2026 concerning incompatibilities and sanctions under ANI legislation, focusing on retroactive effects and compliance with European standards. The evaluation was requested by Gunn Marit Helgesen, following concerns from USR parliamentarians about potential impacts on local elected officials' mandates. The analysis aims to clarify legal compatibility issues, with a plenary opinion expected on December 11-12, 2026. USR leaders have criticized the law's provisions, arguing they could undermine democratic representation and the rule of law in Romania.
